We’re half way through the season and it’s time to update The Dunkyard’s PER Power Rankings (minimum of 500 minutes played).
Anyone Still Booing Now?
Two massive threes in the last minute to seal an amazing comeback against Portland today – making it two game […]
He’s now been left out as a starter for the All-star game.
Seriously, how the fuck is it possible that the current MVP front runner – WHO’S AVERAGING A TRIPLE DOUBLE – doesn’t even make the starting 5 for his own conference?
Meanwhile, the East’s starting lineup of four wings and a point guard makes no sense whatsoever.
The new All-star voting system is already broken.
Here are the starting lineups:
He’s been in the writing wilderness since leaving ESPN and recently wrote a pile of donkey plop regarding a fantasy DeMarcus Cousins trade to Boston – but this is Simmons back to doing what he does best:
Starting this winter, fans control only 50 percent of the vote; players and media members split the other half. My media ballot arrived last week; the NBA wanted votes for two “backcourt” starters and three “frontcourt” starters in each conference. None of this matters — not when the All-Star Game will be hijacked by the relentless awkwardness of Russell Westbrook playing with Kevin Durant again. Will they interact? Will they look at each other? It’s like if Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt were to cohost the Oscars, only if Jolie were a constant threat to whip a line-drive pass at Durant’s head. We won’t even notice the other 22 players unless Giannis dunks from the 3-point line or something.
Wait, you want to hear about my ballot? I’m so glad you asked!
In the world according to Lloydybird…
West starters
- Davis (28.4 PER) – hands down the best big man in the league unless and until Embiid or Towns take the mantle.
- Durant (27.4 PER) – doing what he always does, which makes him a top-5 player in the league and a clear cut All-star starter.
- Leonard (28.4 PER) – you really need to take in some San Antonio games just to see the two or three utterly ridiculous defensive plays he makes (that nobody else in the league can make) EVERY game. And he’s now scoring around 25 a game.
- Harden (27.8 PER) – how’s that trade looking now OKC? Very unlucky that Westbrook is putting together a triple-double season. Would otherwise be the MVP front-runner.
- Westbrook (29.7 PER) – it’s official: nobody can stop him. Just give him the MVP award already.
As we approach the half way mark of the season, one thing is sticking out like dog’s balls – this year’s rookie class is playing terribly. The Dunkyard breaks down the ugly truth.
For those not aware, the 76ers’ Robert Covington has been relentlessly booed during home games by Philadelphia’s fans over the last month. The apparent reason for this is that he is shooting poorly. Any time he strings together a few misses, the boos will start and it was no different during today’s game against Minnesota.
There is no doubt that Covington is struggling this season, posting a true shooting percentage of 47.5% (ranked 306th out of 334 qualified players overall) and a PER of 9.9.
However, enough is enough.
To the idiots booing Covington:
Those that know Lloydybird know that he’s a long suffering Sonics supporter who has been a defacto Clippers supporter since 2008 (based loosely on a Bilas-style ‘shittest available‘ at the time). Lloydybird cares about the Clippers and desparately wants to see them succeed and shove it up the Lakers.
However, after watching the Clippers rise on the back of the Chris Paul trade, it has been an annual cavalcade of bad luck and fuck ups for a team that should have done a lot better. It’s time for change – but without blowing things up.
